Default cleaning out opti?

ok, so i was changing the water pump today and accidently got coolant on the opti. So it runs like crap now, big surprise. I had an idea of taking the opti aprt and cleaning the optical sensor and trigger wheel. this is a two month old gm opti. Has anyone tried this or am i just wasting my time?

Some people have luck with letting the opti dry out for a few days and don't have any problems thereafter. Before you call the hall, I'd wait - you might get lucky.

I am going to take it apart this weekend. I need to replace the driven gear seal and the front crank seal. The driven gear seal started leaking after I put the water pump on. I feel like an idiot for not replacing it when the pump was off. This is my first lt1 car after having many ls1 cars. I just can't see the need to replace the opti when nothing electrically has failed. Just oil and coolant disrupting the low resolution signal. Problem is, it is alot of work to take it back off if cleaning doesn't work.

I would advise against taking it apart (the opti) and cleaning it. Many times this will do more harm than good. Let it dry out, IMO.
