Default Whats a good cam to go with?

Sometime this winter id like to look into a cam swap, whats a good one to go with? id be keeping the bottom end stock considering i dont have the money for a full motor rebuild. My only worry is getting down to the cam and having bad cam bearings. CC503 seems to be the most popular, and i heard Lloyd elliot has a good head/cam package.

XFI 292 or CC306 stock gears and stock heads will run fasterest. At least according to everyone on here.

I prefer mild duration high lift jobs setup for the goals and rest of the combo.

ive been looking into cams aswell, i just didnt want to make a post yet.

What are your goals? fastest set up possible? do you want to retain driveability?

Just a shot in the dark here....If anyone wants to answer this feel free, Are there any cam only set-ups that would go 11's? i think i saw a CC306 setup going 12.05 in someones sig. Wondering if 11's with a cam/bolt on only, stall and slick and good rear car would be capable of going 11's....Streetability/daily driven is not an issue, just driving to and from the track, mostly highway.

call LE/AI and talk to both about your goals, needs, etc. You will be happy with what they came up with. Both have lots of knowledge.

I went with something similar to the 503 but a little bigger, 226/234 565/565 on 111

I'd like to keep the daily driveability, as it's my only car.

Advanced Induction has some excellent shelf grinds that they recommend.

A4 - 226 / 234 - .569/.570 - 110 LSA Primary Operating Range: 2000-6200rpm
This is our largest stock long-block cam for auto cars. Lopey idle, good drivability, and excellent mid-range with peak power at approximately 6200rpm. Properly tuned w/ supporting modifications, M6's typically produce 345-360rwhp SAE corrected.

M6 - 230 / 238 - .575/.575 - 110 LSA Primary Operating Range: 2300-6400rpm
This is our largest stock long-block cam for M6 cars. Excellent for rebuilds with 11:1 compression. Lopey idle, good drivability with gears & tuning, and excellent mid-range with peak power at approximately 6300rpm. Properly tuned w/ supporting modifications, M6's typically produce 350-365rwhp SAE corrected.

I have the 226/234 +4 and I would LOVE to take a shot at a cc306 cam only car. I love my cam https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...ery-happy.html

Crane 227 or the 211/219 LPE cam would get my vote. I LOVED my old crane 227 cam, stock like drive-ability with a ton of torque. Performed great at the track too.

Ok and as far as the heads? Probably not a bad idea to work the stock ones correct?

www.advancedinduction.com

I would say working the stock heads can provide mild gains.

just put the cam in and let the heads ride. Unless your doing it yourself or have the funds to do so.

I was happy with the hotcam, my setup ran really well and had more in it. No matter what cam you go with its still going to take a complete package, and dialing it in.

The first year I had the hotcam I unloaded and ran a 8.80 1/8th mile and picked it away to an 8.30

Last year I changed a few boltons to better ones and started a 8.10-8.20 and ended at 7.70 1/8th mile.

This is all in a cam only, full weight car. with MOST boltons.

Im tired of seeing guys put in cams and still running high 12's and even 13's. If your going to do it make sure everything is supporting.

A custom grind is the way to go, but Id also see what your budget it. If I were to do it all over again I sitll would've ran the hotcam, Thats all I could afford in High School.

The fastest I have ever taken my 306 car is 8.5x around 87 mph if I remember correctly. This is on street tires, with 3.42 gears. I had 4.10s, but grenaded them and I refuse to spend anymore money on a 10 bolt. There is a lot more left in the car if I got a 12 bolt with some good gears and some good tires. But, no money

Get them ported. I trapped 115 with that baby cam and mild heads that only flowed 240cfm in a full weight car. It had quite a bit more in it too with a dyno tune.

I believe SSRRR also ran 12.0 @ 115 with the 211/219 lpe cam and a lower compression motor.

Its a free country, I'll never alter my car for 60 foot performance at the cost of handling and stressing parts. I care more about trap speed.
