help?lt1 smokeing out the exhaust

Default help?lt1 smokeing out the exhaust

my 1995 lt1 is smokeing out the exhaust when i get the rpms up high. it doesnt do it every time thoe. and it spits out a black suit at times when i rev it. what could this mean?

Is the engine light on?the black smoke is from running rich.

^sounds pretty accurate. Should check your codes like suggested. Anything in particular recently done to the car that it started this or you just get it and trying to figure it out?

In most cases :
black smoke = running rich/to much fuel
white smoke = burning coolant
blue-ish smoke = burning oil

Yeah...definately black means its rich. But only smoking at high rpms makes me think a little oil is gettin by the rings. Does it use any amount of oil? If so...u know what the smokes comming from.

black soot could just be condensation being blown out and picking up the soot from the exhast fumes coating the exhaust piping doesnt sound like a big deal

Mine used to do it a bit when it was stock. Now without the cat it will do it when you slam the go pedal.
