Default timing cover removal think i messed up

hi
just got my 1st lt1 94 camro 6-speed 160K on odom. the car has a real bad oil leak all over the timing chain cover and opti. the car cranks perfect but has a misfire and runs real bad so im doing new timing chain, timing cover seals, gaskets, new opti and new water pump. my problem is i removed the water pump and harmonic balancer but when i removed the balancer i turned the motor through the balancer bolt to ajust the pully puller and completly removed the balancer and crank hub without marking anything all i remeber was that the balancer was at the 4clock position! did i mess up? please help

Just remove the cover and turn the motor over so the cam timing gear dot is at 6 o'clock and the crank gear dot should be at 12 o'clock. Then install your new seal and timing cover, putting the hub on with the white mark at 12 o'clock the rest just bolts on from here. Are you changing the entire oil pan seal? I did my cam swap a long time ago and could not get my timing cover leak fixed totally until I changed out the whole oil pan seal. I would have left the timing cover on, dropped the oil pan and installed a new 1 peace seal.

Here is a pic of how the hub should be lined up after you line up the timing gear dots and install the cover. http://www.lt1engine.com/tech/wp-con...1/img_0617.jpg You are using a hub installer to do this? this is what you should be using to install the hub http://image06.webshots.com/6/6/70/7...5JJvBCX_fs.jpg

For what it's worth it makes absolutely no difference how the hub goes back on. The arrow is only for reference. You don't have to take the timing cover off.

No it does not. It's not a balancer. It's a damper. The LT1 engine is internally balanced in the front and externally in the rear.

The pulley/damper assembly (it is NOT a balancer) can only go back on one way. The bolt holes are asymmetrical.

To further add, don't let anyone tell you that there are "Friday engines out thar and they axtuallie needed 2 b balanced uzing a balancer. See? Lookie at them thar holez. They are differnt than urz..."
It's horse ****. The damper is neutral balanced before going onto the engine. Not all dampers are created equal. If that were the case GM would not chance using a balancer without the use of a crank key.
