Default custom alt/power steering relocate

so we finished the motor up and were thinkin of a way to mount the power steering without spendin too much money and so we took the factory bracket cut it and modified it to allow us to use madmans alt relo bracket and leave the power steering in the same spot. its not a finished product but here it is.

Not a bad idea at all. Nice to see some ingenuity nowadays.

However, I would be concerned with the limited belt engagement of the alternator. From the looks of the picture, the belt would only engage the alternator pulley for what, maybe 75 degrees? Same with the PS pulley. It looks like it would engage the pulley less than the alternator. A friend of mine did a similar belt routing on his V6 car and had issues with the PS pulley slipping, and he had more engagement.

the PS looks lik it'll be fine but we might need to add a pulley down on the alt bracket to get more belt on the alt. maybe later ill post the pic with the string on there.

Yeah, that's really my only concern. From what I understand, you should see at the very least 1/3 of the pulley circumference engaged to the belt. This rule doesn't always apply to larger pulleys, but DEFINITELY smaller ones.

Looks like what I did a few years ago. I however didn't use the madman bracket. I bolted the alt where the a/c compressor went. I have yet to have any problems with many 6000+ pulls. Many have used my write-up with much success. So good luck with your mod. Hope it works as well as you had hoped.

i just used the stock bracket, its really simple and looks cleaner to me to keep the same material. my buddy has been using it for a few months with no issues. battery is in the back too so if there was concern of turning the alternator it would have shown up by now.

this was when i first cut it, didn't clean it up or anything. stuck an idler pulley top left and power steering pump goes in the stock spot with a little line tweaking.

welded up a little tab and added a tensioner pulley between the alt and crank pulley it should work well maybe a little slip on the power steering

What kind of pulley/bolt setup are you guys using for the pulley up top, where the alternator used to be? Any belt slippage?

i used a tensioner pulley with the factory alternator bolt. Made a sleeve to reduce the inner id of the pulley bolt hole. Then i just bolted it up. I have no slippage at all. It still sits at about 14 when im driving. I do have underdrive pulleys on the alt and crank so im not sure if that makes a difference or not.
