Default HA! New Prob Weird Alternator issue....Wiring guys help

Well i finally fixed my high rpm miss...

installed EFI Connection with a custom built harness

Now I have another weird problem.....

I have not had a belt on the car because no one had the right size in stock... Car runs great without the belt... Here is where it gets weird...

The belt come in the mail today and when I installed it the car will start and the fuel pump dies (I can see the fuel pressure go to zero on my gauge) and the temp gauge goes to max??? Take the belt back off and it runs fine..

so I figure it Has to do something with the alternator charging with the belt on so I decided to unplug the alternator...the car then won't even turn the starter....???

plug the alternator back in and remove the belt and it runs like a champ....

anybody have any good ideas??

How is the alt grounded(don't you have it sitting where the A/C is)? How is the block ground?

I have a ground strap on the back of the alternator that goes to the block...this is how I have had it for months now with no issues...

Try putting one side of that strap to the chassis where the battery is connected too...

Ok I will give it a try...

I am just baffeled WHY the car wont even try to engage the starter if you unplug the alternator?

I don't even see how that makes since...the red single wire just sends a 12volt signal to the alt to start charging right???

Matt

Well if it won't engage the starter with it disconnected, try and jump the starter manually.

I traced the exciter wire back and all is good.... I turn the key and it has 12v at the alt plug....

Then it has 12 volts all the time too on the back side of alt too where the battery wire goes..... even with the car off

^ That's normal.. It's just a positive connection right off the battery. It should be +/- 12v. So you're saying the car runs like poop with the alternator and belt hooked up?

Car runs great with the alt hooked up an NO belt....stick the belt on and when you start the car the fuel pump quits and the car shuts off....and the temp gauge goes to hot (even though the motor is not hot....

Can anyone tell me what the wires under the dash go to? there are 3 pigtails that go inside the car... 1 is flat and has 4 spots but only 3 wires...1 of them is a large purple wire which i believe goes to the starter... the other is black with a white stripe which i assume is a ground and the 3rd is all grey???
