Default LT1 Alt with Tall Valve Covers

I know you need to grind away part of the alternator:

In particular on that "ear" piece, my alt has the end of a bolt sticking out... Seems like I shouldn't just grind that away but I kind of have to?

Just making sure that's what I need to do...

There are many different tall Valve covers? Which ones are you going with?

Most people that have those valve covers relocate their alternator.

Well I don't want to do that...

I plan on running a supercharger and I don't want to ditch my AC or power steering.

He only uses the top and bottom bolt holes. He eliminated that little bracket that holds the alt. to the intake. That bracket is useless anyway IMO

It's not part of the bracket... but yeah I know you ditch that too.

I have those and just ground the ear off. Bought them at a Super Chevy show almost 10 years ago.

I use those with every damn bolt and all factory Acc. Tape off any holes into the alt. then grind away the area in the picture in you original post plus a tad off near the bearing. some times you need to take some off near the bearing sometimes you dont. I just ground a little and then test fitted it on the car. if it didn't fit I ground a bit more, and test fit it again. It takes about 15 20min. You are also going to have to grind down one of the regulator bolts flat

Hey Roxy I also yanked that bracket but got notched valve covers, so had no grinding to do.
I re-mounted it to a garage wall now, so it holds shop towels n junk.
