Default TB Coolant Bypass

Ok my buddy said you can get more power by blocking off the coolant passages within the stock TB? In theory it should keep the throttle body cooler and therefore keeping your incoming air cooler resulting in better power. In reality does this really work or is it not worth doing?

It has shown a couple of ponnies in some tests done at the dyno. Its done that way from factory to get some better fuel economy.

seems like every make of car like to run coolant in this area, why the hell? can see it helpping in any way to have hot coolant and on a cold start it seems like it would take too long like those old exhaust to aircleaner things on older cars

It's not for fuel economy. It's to keep the throttle blades from icing during extended operation in extremely cold climates. No one has ever reported a problem after bypassing the coolant hoses.

Long time since hot air diaphragms and choke pull-offs. Thanks for the memory. Last car I worked on with that sort of thing was the 86-89 series Accord (except the PGM-FI LXi models).

That is the correct answer. FWIW, mine has been bypassed since 96 without any problems at all. And its a free mod to boot.

Agreed, and mines been bypassed since 97 & have driven it in winter months just fine. Also, eliminated the need to mess with coolant if your pulling the intake manifold off to take care of intake oil leaks if you have any.
