Default car starts then dies when i give it gas..

Got in my car and started it. Idles for about 5 seconds then dies. Dies even quicker after I give it some gas. the weird thing about it, is that i drove it home from work about 30mins ago and the car ran fine. not really sure what it could be. i find it hard to believe that something could break that quickly when it was just sitting for those 30mins. any help?

just went outside to check it again, and now it turns over, but doesnt fire up at all. ive been doing some researching, and it seems like it could be the fuel pump. however, i dont know how to check the fuel pressure.

Get a pressure gauge. There's a cap on the fuel rail. Key in

Ensure you have plenty of fuel, check the Schrader valve by the fuel pressure regular for fuel pressure, check for spark, check the coil, check the ICM, get some throttle body cleaner and spray the area by the ICA to see you if you have a nice vacuum leak, hide yer kids, hide yer wife, and that will go towards eliminating a lot of the obvious issues.

certainly sounds fuel related. check it at the rail as stated. if nothing, then make sure the power to the pump is ok. after that replace if necessary.

Yea I think fuel too....could be the relay itself....try jumping the pump at the service connector and see what it does...

I guess I'm used to obd1 my car throws a code for the knock sensor, but the ses light don't come on. Take a small screw driver and prime the fuel system and hit the schrader valve, if it comes gushing out like niagra falls, then you know you atleast have some sort of pressure, but still get a gauge and verify it.

so if i find that theres no fuel in the rails, that means the fuel pump is dead? average fuel psi at idle is about 43?
