Default removing of exhaust manifolds (94 formula) help!!

i'm in the process of removing the right hand side exhaust manifold and have gotten 4 of the 6 bolts out. The back two (closest to firewall) are the biggest pain in the *** ever. I can barely get a socket on the number 5 one and am fearing of rounding the head as I can't get it to break free. the 6th one well is a bitch altogether.

anyone have any tips or tricks for removing these two hard to reach bolts?

i just sprayed both the PB stuff hoping that drenching it in that and letting it sit will do something.

i got it best by laying on the engine from the drivers side or you can get underneath and get it that way

i've tried from underneath not really having much luck. i'm thinking i might need a 14mm medium depth socket to get it. not sure about the 6th bolt though

Soak the crap out of them with PB/WD40, go back out in an hour, do it again, and repeat. Then try to TIGHTEN them a bit to break them free, then loosen them. Sounds crazy, but anyone who has a lot of assembly experience will tell you to tighten a bit first, then loosen.

tightening definetly makes sense, i will soak them again in an hour, which should be just enough time to get the sun behind the trees.

okay so i got it off but i'm having a major pain in the *** getting the 3rd and 4th bolt in. it seems they don't want to thread yet 1,2,5,6 went in and are just resting holding it in place. spent way too long trying to get this **** in. grr. i thought maybe the gasket was in the way but i've looked at it with a mirror and the hole seems clear. wtf.

just remove all the plastic junk that can be broken and sprall out across the engine bay, and maybe go get a universal joint, that should help you out a lot, it helped me atleast

if the bolts are out, sounds like they are, but the new ones wont go in, try to leave the first and last headerbolt in loosely, and then work with the 2 that dont seem to want to go in. I would actually double check them by removing the header again and getting a clear shot at it making sure they are threading properly first. You dont want to cross thread one.

x2
I don't think you want to find out how much a PITA cross threaded header bolts are.
Take the bolt out and see if the thread on it is good too.

They are a pain to get started sometimes. Take it slow, and use your sense of touch. If something feels like its not going in right, stop and try something else.

Whatever you do, use a 6 point socket.
