Default Dreaded intake manifold gasket leak

I found out today at a local shop that my car was leaking from the intake manifold. I obviously knew it was leaking, but they told mr it was coming from the gasket there... So here is the problem, I get the estimate and it is over $500. Has anyone else had this problem and had someone fix it? If so, how much did it run you money wise? I am not convinced I could tackle something like this on my own, but I may have to if necessary. Any suggestions?

Do it your self its one of the easiest things to do on LT1's. Only need basic tools nothing special.

Hardest part is setting the intake straight down making sure you get it sealed right with enough sealant applied correctly on the front and rear of intake, but if you take your time shouldn't be too hard.

For me it takes about 40 minutes, but since you never done it probly 2 hours my guess? After its done you can add oil but don't run it till you give it a good 24 hours for the sealant to fully cure.

i'll do it for a hundred plus parts,or for parts and a stripper helping
OR go buy a haynes manual $15, intake gaskets $15, sealant$6, fuel line dissconnect tool $10, a gasket scraper and or some razor blades, a torque Wrench $30, brake cleaner $6,some rags for cleaning and covering lifter valley while you clean and a shop vac to suck out trash that will get past rag barrier into lifter valley ..
GET TO WORK OR GET RID OF IT
i'll start the bidding at $1,000
Seriously get to work its a walk in the park once you do it,any shop wanting $500 to do it should at least kiss you afterwards before the cigarette

Basic tools + torque wrench and time is all it takes.

Just make sure you know where all the bolts go, the correct tightening sequence, and where all the connecters go and you're set.

My first time took me like 2 hours to remove since I have all the emission **** I couldn't figure out how to take off to get the last intake manifold bolt off...take the emission junk off first (and leave it off! lol) other than that just apply a pretty liberal amount to the front and back so it won't leak again, I didn't put enough so I need to redo mine =/

Reminds me of the $800 quote for an LT1 spark plug and wire change. Took me two days but I did it on my own!

It may look & sound intimidating but its is pretty easy! I figured I might take a few more things off too and throw a cam in there while I was at it. shbox's site is very helpful for all sorts of stuff> http://shbox.com/1/how_tos.html
check the cam removal & installation links which cover the intake mani as well. GL and if you have any Q's we'll all be able to help ya
