Default 1.6 vs 1.7 rr

My car has almost all bolt-ons except rockers, and I've been trying to decide whether to get 1.6's since they are what most use with aftermarket cams and I'd have them down the road.....or to get 1.7's since they would give me the most lift/power with the stock cam. Either way they will be NSA with guideplates, hardened pushrods, 7/16" studs, and probably Comp 918's since I already have a set.

Does anyone recommend using the 1.7's with a cam swap down the road? It'll probably be a CC503 that I also already have. I'm just not looking to tear into a cam swap for awhile since I DD it and can't take the down time right now.

On the stock cam I run 1.7's. I've also had 1.52's and 1.6's. The 7/16 nsa Scorpion's produced a solid 10 rwhp over the 1.6 s/a Promags on the dyno for me and I would not hesitate to use 1.7's with the "503".

With the 503 it won't be an issue, but if you ever plan on running an aggressive cam then you will have to be careful.

1.7s do more then just increase valve lift over 1.6s - they essentially make everything happen quicker. Pair that with some of the popular aggresive cam lobes and you may end up with a combo that needs very expensive valvetrain parts to control valve float.

An aggressive cam really needs to be speced with 1.7s in mind.

It sounds like the 1.7's are the way to go then. They will make the most of my stock cam and then make the CC503 even better when I get around to swapping.

Think the beehives are good enough for the cc503 and the 1.7's or will I need something more along the lines of Patriot Golds? I know that on paper the 918's will have clearance for the lift, but control is what I'm concerned with.

The ones I'm looking at are #IE1026 and cost $245 shipped according to the Ebay listing. That's 1.7:1 and 7/16" stud.

I actually don't mind thread hijacking at all.....the information is usually useful to myself or may help someone else. Always welcome.

I always like the idea of a 1.7 rocker setup on a bolt-on car, but the future plans for a cam always cause me to steer away from them. Like was stated above, it could be made to work, but I think the 1.6's will make it easier to find the cam that you want.

I agree with the aggressive cam lobes, I'm using 1.65 ratio on the intake side of an LE custom cam..Lloyd had to take into account what ratio I was using to get the right lobes to work with my setup..Guess you can't get to aggressive.

They looked like a quality rocker to me and I've run them for almost 3 years.

That is EXACTLY what I am doing....Same exact cam I run 11's with N/A currently with 1.6 rockers...My heads flow 10 more CFMs at .600 so I hope the extra lift gives me some more power....

Im currently running, LT4 hotcam valve springs, retainers and locks - ARP 7/16 studs - Trick Flow guideplates - Wysco stainless 1.6 ratio 7/16 stud mount rockers. Would I be able to switch to just the 1.7rr's? I also plan on doing the 503c sometime in the future but if I can get another 10 at the wheels for the time, why not? Thanks guys. This is a good thread
