NOS Timing Retard...Mallory or MSD...whats the Difference?
Hello all,
Looking for an iginiton box that has a timing retard for nitrous. Will be spraying a 150 shot and going up to maybe 200.
I did a search and saw the two choices that most people run, the Mallory 685 and MSD Digital 6.
It seems that the 685 was the choice because it was cheaper than the MSD box. I did a search on Summit/Jegs and it looks like they are about the same price now. The 685 is now backordered until mid January.
What makes one better than the other since they seem to be the same price now, or am I missing something?
I've not had any experience with the Mallory, but I have a Digital 7 on my Chevelle and it seems like a decent ignition.
Thanks!
Tony

I am using the Mallory now. I wouldnt go any other way. When I bought mine they were only $230 but the demand has gone up and so has the price. But it comes with a 2 step, start timing retard, timing retard for nitrous, 2 built in window switches, and a bunch of other stuff I dont use that is boost related. It is super simple to operate also. Get it you will not be disappointed

It does look 50/50 now doesn't it?
It's ok, it looks like either box will work and thats what I was looking for. I'll talk to my builder to see what manufactuer he prefers, but at least I can give him some suggestions on what to use.
Thanks!

AChotrod,
Awesome Nitrous setup! Saw it in another thread. Have you run it at the track yet?
Anyone know the part number for the wiring harness to hook the MSD or Mallory ignition box so none of the wiring needs to be cut?

i got my mallory 685 off of craigslist for $100 brand new still in box
don't use the boost stuff on my car, but it's there if i ever do, i just use the two-step. didn't notice any difference really performance wise, i just bought it for the features
i think it'd work well for nitrous.
don't have any experience with the msd digital 6 so i can't really compare them, but the 685 has pleased me
