Default oops! over reved!

well i was messing around on the interstate this past weekend and i shifted from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th and over reved the motor, now not only is my rear singing a little but now the motor has a mild studder. it still idles fine and runs but has little "hickups" any idea what i likely did? motor has forged pistons and built/hardened valve train. the guy who build the motor said i likely fouled a plug or 2. any other suggestions?

pull the plugs and do a compression check...give you an idea if you messed anything up....

Bent pushrods or valves. Not sure how an over-rev would affect the plugs.

Yeah I would go with the opti. The rotor inside doesnt like high rpm's and tends to walk. I had the same problem with mine a while back(not from missing a gear though) and it was doing the exact same thing, new opti problem solved

idk if its the opti.....i mean how high could it have gone? for just that split second untill you pushed the clutch back in......i was twisting my opti 8200 on the regular and not breaking anything...(well at least not too often lol)....my vote is on a bent pushrod or something like that

I was only spinning mine around 7000 but I think it has more to do with how long it stays in that rpm range

My brand new GM opti lost the rotor after a few 6800 pulls. New one has been fine.

pull the valvecovers. It should be pretty easy to spot.

I was going to say pushrod also. However, I'd check it out ASAP, and not drive it too much before diagnosing it.

How would it be easy to spot a bent valve by pulling the valve covers?

Depends on where it's bent. I was more talking about pushrods and possible valvetrain carnage associated with the type of damage said.

But, thanks for trying to make me look stupid.

Because the valve would be "hanging up", not fully closing, because of being bent by colliding with the piston. This, in turn, would be indicated by a lot of slack in that particular valve's adjustment.....
