I have a CSR water pump on my car. It has been on there for the past 3 1/2 years, and has always ran good. Today I was flushing my heater core, and I turned the key to the on position when I had the thermostat out. I noticed that it sounded like the water pump was cutting on and off. It has a good circuit, or it has for the last 3.5 years anyway. Could this be a sign of it running on its last leg? Also, I have noticed the car runs a bit hotter while cruising than it used to.

Putting one and one together, it sounds like the pump is going out. Time for a new one!

That is what I was figuring. I hope it makes it through tonight! I've got a date to go on. That would suck to get stranded on a first date because my waterpump dies going down the highway.

thats what mine did and when it finaly stops spinning all together it over heats and melts wires..you got 2 to 7 days

3 1/2 years is a long time for a EWP to be still working in a street driven ride.

Replace it and make sure you have an emergency light on your dash wired up to let you know if it dies on the road.

Are you sure it wasn't running out of water while you were flushing the core, the pump is not going to kick off and on by itself. Maybe a faulty relay. How can the wires melt when there's supposed to be a 30 amp fuse in the circuit ? My original CSI pump lasted 4 1/2 years before it started making noise which lasted about 2 weeks and then started blowing fuses. A typical sign of a failing pump.

My CSR died after a year due to the seal on the motors shaft failing. Every time I would accelerate it would make the water inside the winding short out the circuit.
The water made the CSR sound like it was running at different speeds or not running at all. When I pulled that POS off my car I launched it down my driveway. I tried to reorder another short style waterpump from CSR so I didn't have to cut my fan shroud. It turned out that Jeggs and summit both didn't have them even thou it listed them on their site. They called me up and told me it would be several weeks, until they would ship it. I bought a Jeggs pump and never looked back.
