Numbers help please!
I have what I thought was a 93 LT1 engine (complete) from a cop or state car, now I'm told it probably isn't. Please identify these numbers if you can: Block, bellhousing flange cast in - GM5.7LGSGI; deck - V0629WHK. Heads (iron)-10125320. Alternator, ac., & steering pump mount-10105312 . Thanks in advance!!

93 caprices didn't come with Lt1s, so it may not even be a 93 motor if it came from a 93 caprice.

I'm not positive what it came from. It wasn't in a vehicle when I bought it. I was told that's what it was in. That's why I want to run the #'s. I was relieved to see that it wasn't a L99. At the time I bought it, I didn't know there was a L99.

What is the shape of the water pump holes on the front of the block? Circular? I'm guessing it is belt driven? If so that definitely a gen 1 sbc. Does the timing cover have 3 holes?

I pulled the oil pan. 2 bolt block. Don't have any good way to measure the cylinder bores with it altogether hanging on the cherry picker (engine stand has other engine on it for now). It does have an oil temperature(?) sensor in the pan (driver side) and has a windage tray. I don't have the water pump off, but its not belt driven. The Opti has a little rubber tube coming out the bottom. Is that a vent?..... Any ideas as to where to look up the engine numbers to verify what it is?

On the driver side of the motor, where the transmission bellhousing meets the block, there will be an etched VIN derivative just above the oil filter area. Look at the first two digits.
First digit - 1 is Chevrolet, 2 is Pontiac.
Second digit - P = 1993, R = 1994, S = 1995, T = 1996, V = 1997.

Yes! It has 327 upside down like that on the block. So, we're good with it being an LT1. Thanks! Now for the correct year. (mine DOESN"T have the aftermarket rods like yours though!!LOL).... I couldn't find any etched in #s that RamAir95TA was directing me to though, yet.

95 TA: I wire brushed that area clean with no results. It is bare cast iron, no #'s! I suppose it possible they were stamped in too lightly? Thanks for the picture. They really help! .....What are the stock rod bolts good to, 6000 rpm? or would that be asking for failure? The bottom end looks good enough to live it alone, other than maybe a cam change. Can I assume it would pull good that far without nosing over? Just wondering about the bolts. (I love this forum. It's exactly what I need!)
