Default How to home port the LT1 Intake?

I FINALLY ordered a 58mm TB for my heads/cam setup, (vs my stock 48mm) and since I have to take the intake off to enlarge the TB bores anyway, I figured I would touch up the runners while it's off. I'm not trying to tackle a 'full port' job on the intake but rather touch up some of it's flaws to gain a little better flow and power.

First, I know not to gasket match the runners, but rather to try to make the plenum-to-runner transition smoother and smoothing the 'ski-jump' in the runners. Does anyone have any better description on this and pics (before vs after) and better explanation as to what and how to get a little more power out of the intake while off? Thanks in advance!

I would be carefull with it. it's soft aluminum as you know and one sway of the hand and you'll take a gouge out of one of your runners. I did clean up the casting burs but that was about all i did as I've heard and seen to many "home port butcher jobs". Good luck.

Before you go ruining something, just port the front of the plenum for the throttle body and leave the rest of the manifold alone. These "flaws" you mention don't really exist.

The only porting i would bother with on a stock intake is like mentioned, the throttle body opening, then send it off to be extrude honed.

Ok, I just didn't know if it would be really worth it or not on my setup. I'm only spinning to about 6400 RPM (stock shortblock). Other than porting the TB bores and right behind them, I'll just leave the runners alone, maybe just smooth them out with some sanding rollers.

I wouldn't even do that much. You need some type of texture on the runners - they should not be polished smooth.

Actually since the injector is at the very bottom of the runner, almost into the head port, rough runners do nothing for 'atomizing' the fuel. Plus, I'm not going to polish them, just smooth out any casting flash that may be present and with a grit such as 240, not going to polish.

i gasket matched mine, smoothed the ski-jumps, and ported it for 58mm throttle body, and it made over 400 rwhp and 400 rwtq.

i did it at home

Turbulent air is still important even prior to the injector.

Either way, there's no benefit.

I'd tend to listen to RamAir95TA he's been on here awhile and seems to know his **** pretty well. And obviously not every idiot can build a 10 second LT1.

I have a LPE ported intake, no idea if it made any difference but it was cheap and came painted red which was the main reason i bought it. But OP for now id just enlarge the TB holes. If you want it ported send it out to a good company
