Default What should I do?

Alright so I have a spun rod bearing and I'm wondering it it would be better/cheaper to rebuild the existing bottom end I have now or go buy this short block and just put my top end on. Motor has 140,000 on the clock so something needs to be done while engine is out of car.

That seems to be a pretty good deal...almost too good. See what kind of warranty they offer, and search for some real-world reviews too.

Yeah, I thought it looked kinda shady as well. 90 day warranty isn't much. Says they've been building engines for 20+ years. I've been looking for a while for someone that has used one of they're engines and haven't found much.

I've always been a fan of finding a local reputable shop to do the work. It's a more intimate experience, you can see their work first-hand, and if you ever have any problems you can actually talk with them. It will be more expensive undoubtedly, but it comes with bonuses that "mail order" shortblocks can't really provide.

Are you anywhere on the east coast?

I have a mechanic that dropped the engine, that shortblock is probably stock everything. I'll probably just buy a new rotating assembly which will be more expensive, but more piece of mind. I could rebuild the engine myself with a few friends, so the labor isn't a factor.

No sir, I live in Oklahoma, middle of no where haha.

Ive heard nothing but problems from ATK. OP look at Golen/Clayton Racing, they seem to have good short blocks. Also find a local shop like RamAir95TA said, I had mine built by a local speed shop. It was nice knowing what was going into it and seeing progress.

And I've dealt with some crap from serious bullshit from Golen too (both in craftsmanship AND customer service) so I can't recommend them either.

I think it's pretty well unanimous that ALL mail-order short blocks come with a certain degree of risk. Some get lucky, others do not.

Very true, as I said a local speed shop built mine and I bought every component for it aside from the ARP hardware they supplied. OP try to find a local shop. As for ATK my dad bought a rebuilt Vortec block for his pickup and it failed not too long after install. And they refused to honor the warranty even after he took them to court. They have so many repair conditions if something goes wrong its ridiculous. Google them and you will find many more

Lol is that the one with the bad bolts? Because that's the only bad post that's on the bbb, everyone else on there has gotten a refund or repair.

If I do go with having someone build the engine id be going to XP Racing, they specialize in LSX engines but I'm sure building an LT1 would be within they're abilities.

I would go with them, local is usually better.
