Default What causes this?

Hey guys, im in the middle of installing my LT's and I pulled my valvecovers off and I noticed my valvetrain is stained brown. i'm just curious what causes this to happen, The motor is completely stock and I use Castrol 10W30 every 3000 miles. The oil smelly kind of gassy also.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Im guessing GTX? Conventional oil will do that, good synthetic oil will keep it clean or at most leave a slight golden color. The gas smell could be gas getting into your oil

If you see discoloration like that pic, it's normal. If that discoloration has texture to it (ie gunk) then it's most likely caused from neglect.
