Default really bad oil leak

I am pretty new to LT1s and have searched and im pretty sure it is leaking from behind the water pump. but I can not see to tell for sure. My motor was leaking when running and it was consistent. I beleived it only leaked when running and dripped what had been leaked when parked leaving about a 3-4 inch spot when parked. yesterday I parked on the side of the road and there was a large spot when I came out in the mourning. so large I dont want to drive the car until fixed. I know pictures dont really help find a leak but this will give you a idea how much leaked over night..

I cant see down where the water pump but is it possible for it to cause that much of a leak? what else could it be?

Could be anything from the intake to a bad seal(s) on the timing cover to the timing cover gasket to the oil pan gasket. If only one of those is bad off it will leak something fierce. If you want to pinpoint then clean the front of the engine as best you can, run again and feel around. Start from where the front of the intake meets the block and work your way down.

That kinda sounds like one of my leaks, and someone mentioned that it is probably the water pump shaft seal.

keep us up to date on what you find out.

You said behind the waterpump so my first guess is timing cover seal. Mine leaks a very tiny bit, its notorious on these cars

Yeah every LT1 I have seen locally has oil leaking from the front of the motor, including mine. My buddies looks like it's from behind the opti, and mine looks like the oil pan gasket, and maybe a bit behind the opti too. Which is BS because my motor is brand new with like 200 miles on it.

Welcome to the world of the LT1...despite what the GM engineers tried to do with the LT1, eliminate leaks, it seems they did the opposite!

I spent about 10 days last spring, when it got warm enough in the garage to cawl around and under the car, changing every gasket/seal except the head gaskets. It was the first time since 1999, that the car wasn't seeping oil from somewhere. I hope it holds up through this year.....

It could be any of the things mentioned above, but my money is on the timing cover. Seems to be a pretty common leak.

its not friggin leaking because its an LT1, come on people. it actually has a nice aluminum timing cover on it. i built a handful recently and they didnt leak anything, you just have to know what your doing.

if you removed the timing cover in the car, chances are you will not get it sealed back up very well down around the pan area. so, that may very well be a common leak as time goes on and people work on them.
