most will say 3.73's but i will either be going with 3.90's or 4.10's with a yank SS3600 converter.

1) Have a look at the gear calculator on fbody.org/gears

2) Figure out where your shift points are so you're not in the wrong portion of your power/ torque curve when you cross the traps

3) Reap benefits of doing what's correct for your setup/ goals

If you do alot of daily driving/highway driving, 3:73's, but if you're willing to put up with some drone on the highway go 3:90's. I never had an A4 LT1 car, but I did have 3:73's in my 88 IROCZ and it ran awesome with them

I've had 3.73 and 4.10's. Personally I like the 3.73 better. 4.10's on the spray will peel the pavement. The 3.73's seems to use the Broad torque curve of these motors better. Looking back now I wish I had left the stock 3.23's and just done a stall and never messed with the gearing.

I'd say 3.73 for a DD. If it's just a fun track car Set it up with 3.90s. Of course you have to take into account your other mods as previously said.

Here's a piece of a spreadsheet I put together. This is assuming stock size drag radials and stock shift points for A4 cars, and a 6400RPM redline. It also does not take gravity or friction into account so the numbers you'll see will be as they would occur in a vacuum in the absence of gravity or friction. So I'm mentally subtracting 5-8 MPH for where reality would be.

The idea was to find what would be the ideal range for my torque curve to be accelerating hard crossing the traps. Since my M6 car makes the bulk of its torque between 4400 and 6300, I'm looking to cross the traps at 112-122 MPH at about 5900-6100. My own big decision is where I want to grab 4th, since I can't get there in 3rd with any gear.

I'm shooting for 11.8 at 114-115 MPH. On MY setup, I'd be out of torque in 4.10s in 4th gear far too late in my run. 3.90s or even 3.73s would do better. So my choice for MY setup would be 3.90s. If I used taller rear wheels (27-28") I'd be more likely to go with 3.73s. My .02.
