Is the car poping and backfiring, or just turning over?
Another thing to note is that just because you get spark to a cylinder, doesn't mean it's getting good spark, for instance, a detached, damaged rotor will give intermittent spark to the cylinders, but it will crank all day and pop and backfire, but never actually run. Just saying.

I have 40lbs of pressure on the gauge and used a spark tester between the coil and opti and between the opti and the plug. I just put a new opti on it. The spark between the coil and opti is orangish and the same at the plug. Have checked injectors. If I use starter fluid it starts to hit.

check the ICM. Mine had similar problems and I took it to advanced auto..... they checked it and it failed the "low rpm test". I replaced it and bam.....fixed the problem. Hope yours is that simple

Did anybody fix this problem? im having a similar issue im getting great fuel pressure and all injectors are spraying...i pulled a spark plug out to check the fire and all i get is an orange ark. brand new plugs and wires. when the motor is all together and i try to start it its pops and back fires and starting fluid makes no difference.

When you remove the opti, pay attention to where the cam dowel pin is in regard to the optispark drive mechanism. Refer to figure above.
You can also remove the cap from the opti (E4 socket needed) and see if the rotor is still securely fastened.
Other than that, the only way to test the optical side of the distributor is to use an oscilliscope and observe the square wave (I have never done that).
