My last opti issue wasn't actually the opti BUT, it was that my opti connector was destroyed and corroded, causing it to cut out connection when it got hot.

Are all your plug wires ok? Check the spark plugs, sometimes the ceramic cracks in them and you never know till you take them out. This one time I washed my car and I'm guessing I got something wet in the ignition and it was stumbling like yours at an idle, and it smelled like gas.

My car would randomly not start. Even let me stranded on the freeway once. I would let the car sit for a few weeks and it would start up again.

Just replaced the opti this weekend and car fired up right away. Drove around for a while, turned the car on and off while hot, then again after getting back home after letting it cool down and no more issues. Wires still looked good, my old opti looked pretty trashed though.

If you're having to give it throttle to keep it alive, what about MAF/MAP sensor issues?

When my first opti went out it wouldn't rev above 3k rpms, and to even get there it ran choppy as hell. Would barely hold an idle. Managed to limp it back home the mile or so, pretty ugly. When I had a second Opti failure it randomly misfired.

Both opti failures were after the car sat un-driven for over a month.

sounds about close to what mines doing, it barely idles and sounds like *** when i give it gas to keep it running. it idles right at 200 then shuts off, and smokes, im wondering if the reason for the smoke could be bc its getting fuel but not enough spark.
