Default Fel-Pro Q1406, which side facing header(manifold)

Just got the Fel-Pro Q1406 header gaskets. Just confused myself and can't figure which side of the gasket should face the headers(manifold). Thanks for any help.

IMO it does not really matter.

I was thinking the same thing and dont know why it would matter. But maybe somebody will prove us wrong.

The directions say silver side toward header. Mine have been on backwards for 6 years and never a leak.

Figures. Yeah I didn't see anything on mine to show which side faces header. Apparently it doesn't matter.

I installed a new set of 1406 gaskets a couple of weeks ago and both sides of my gaskets were blue. One side had a very slight dish shape to it just like I have seen on them for years and they did not come with any instructions.

XJS,
Are you sure those were the 1406 gaskets?

My 1406s were blue on both sides.

If it mattered which side was which, I would imagine they would emboss it on the gasket. I've always installed them any which way without one exhaust leak.

I used the Brodix flange on my headers which is the large D port. The 1406 is for the Brodix head. They fit my header perfect. This is the second time this has come up. Last time I had to go look as I did this time. Mine are aluminum embossed on 1 side and someone found a link for the instructions. That's how I know they're on backwards.
