Default 12 Second LT1

Right now I have a mostly stock 97 Trans Am with the LT1 in it. It has ported and polished heads, shift kit, 3.23s, and flowmaster exhaust. What would be the easiest and cheapest way to run 12s? I don't care if it's low 12s or high 12s. What mods would I need to buy?

No nitrous or slicks.

Put a cam, lifters, 1.6 roller rockers. long tube headers, 52mm tb, cold air intake, 3.73 gears, tubular lower control arms and relocation brackets, subframe connectors and drag radials.

Like the others said it depends on how exactly/who did the porting/polishing.

Put a set of long tube headers and a decent 3400-3600 stall behind it and it should break into the high 12's regardless. Many will reccomend Yank, Vigilante, or Circle D for stall converters.

Stall, gears, drag radials, exhaust or cutout maybe some weight reduction should be plenty.

Slicks aren't needed for 12's.....or 11's.....or 10's.....

Or do I need to show a car in south florida running 8's in his camaro on DR's?

Slicks break parts....and for 12s...it's not worth it

slicks break less parts than DR's.

Traction breaks parts, not tires.

This is very true. Even an agressive high performance street tire is capable of a lot more than people give credit to. There are 11 second factory cars out there nowadays, none of which run drag radials

Not saying E.T's wouldnt improve a little with DR's, but nevertheless DR's are not an absolute necessity to go fast (traction is, of course, though)

If done right your ported and polished heads with CAI and no other mods should get you real close to the high 12's. Headers and off-road y-pipe can be a huge gain. There have been many manual cars in the 12.7's at 107 with nothing more than headers/ORY/supporting bolt-ons and DR's. The first thing you should consider in this endeavor are DR's.
