Default checking a water pump

can anyone tell me how to check a water pump to see if its doing what its post to do and whats the symptoms of a water pump going out on our cars

If the pump is going bad it will drip/weep coolant out of the weep hole on the bottom of the pump.

and proceed to drip down over the crank pulley. At least, that's what it did for me.
Fortunately, it chose to do this AFTER my 750 mile trip home from Houston.

It's a good excuse to install an EWP
