Default valve clearance ?'s

ok so previous owner stated that my heads were milled to 11:1 to compression, couldnt present any paperwork but he did give me ever reciept for everything else on the car. ok so my question is, im gonna be running a GM847 cam with 1.6rr's, my lift will be under .600 . will i have any issues with valve clearance?? kinda looking for people that have had the same setup to chime in. the car is under the knife right now so i will find out eventually, just would like some input. Thank - Levi

from my understanding duration is more important to PTV clearance than lift. either way I don't see it being a problems with a flat top piston and that camshaft.

I agree to small a cam to worry about it. But if any head work was done then the proper way is to clay test it. But more likly than not you will be ok

I would check PTV clearance. You don't want to guess with that type of thing.

Not to mention, there are much better cam choices out there.

I understand. If the heads were stock I would say go for it, but you have no idea how much they have been cut.

If it were me, I would pull a head and check it. Then again, you could always change your cam selection to be on the safe side. I have seen a few 230/236 or similar cars make just as much and the 306/847 cars. Not to mention the manners of the car will be much better.

if the heads were milled to bring the compression just up to 11:1 I wouldn't see an issue. I have 12.3:1 SCR with a 230/242 cam with no PTV problems, but always best to check first.

you can stuff a 255/265 or something stupid big and it still wont be an issue.. lt1's are not known to have ptv problems. even with heads milled alot. spoke to llyod elliot about this many times.
