Default LT4 availability question

I ran into a very nice guy with a very nice 1996 Corvette today. Just to show I knew a thing or two about cars, I said hmm, LT1, eh?

He replied: "No, it's a LT4. ALL 1996 Corvettes with the manual transmission came with the LT4 engine." He emphasized "all".

I was aware that the LT4 was an option in 1996 cars but standard on all stick cars?

True or false?

If every stick car came with it, it kinda diminishes the allure of the mighty LT4, doesn't it.

You used to be able to buy them as a crate motor from GM, they stopped doing that in 99. There were a couple folks who did the swap in to a Fbodies. For a Vette it isn't so much the LT4 as it is to have a Grand Sport or even a LT4 CE. The LT4 was just a special filler motor for the departed LT5 which saw cease in production in 1995 at the end of the ZR1 run and the new C5 with the LS1 for 97. Sent the C4 generation out with a bang. For F-bodies the allure is, only like 100 or so SS Camaros and 30 or so Firehawks got them in 1997.

I have driven a genuine SLP 1997 SS with the LT4. Felt like a LS1 car.

there is only 7000ish of them out of the 21000 1996's. and there were 1000grandsports which ALL got them and were the first 1000 corvettes made in 96.
