Default Problems with Shifting in an Auto.

I know, I know, Boo auto.
Sorry guys.

Anyway, Heres whats happening, sometimes when I go to shift my car to reverse or even drive, the button that allows the shifter to move will not engage. It doesnt matter what I do sometimes, (of course I have my foot on the break constantly) But the shifter has a little bit of give to it, almost to where you can twist it side to side but not by much. Its kind of strange.

Anyway,
I was at work the other night, and it was almost like nothing I did I could get the button to engage, (tried for about 20 mins) Finally when I had just about given up and someone was going to come pick me up, I turned the car off and back on. When I did this i stepped on the breaks (almost like i was pumping them) while pressing on the trigger. One of the times that I "pumped" my breaks it engaged.

Im not entirely sure what the issue is, or how to fix it.
Do any of you guys have any ideas?

If I remember correctly there is a solenoid that locks out the shifter until the brakes are held to keep you from putting in to gear by accident.

Could be the brake switch going out since it has to sence you pushing the pedal down to unlock the shifter

Try unplugging the BTSI solenoid and see if it the button will depress. It's under the shifter plate.

Im assuming you get asked too many questions or I would have PMed you. lol.
So If I unplug this and it does depress it is indeed going bad?
