My car just turned 70k miles, and has a stubborn lifter tick on the driver side bank. I changed the oil and added Marvel Mystery oil, nothing. Changed the oil and tried Valve Medic, and nothing.

I also had my mechanic reset all the valves on that side and nothing was loose or out of the ordinary. Its not an exhaust leak because i can pin point it by a stethoscope to around the center of the cover away from both headers and injectors. It does get a little bit quieter the warmer it gets, and is obnoxious when cold. No DTCs are being set so i assume its not knock, plus it runs like a champ minus the transmission. lol

How the heck can i get rid of this tick!

Honestly could not think of a better time for a cam swap, consider it a freebee on labor, either buy a haynes book and dive in or pay your mechanic either way it will be worth it.

Agreed. Change the lifters. If you've pinpointed the ticking to the lifters that would make the most sense.

I left a ticking lifter alone. It didn't leave my motor alone, it exploded and sen metal through out. Did get to do a 383 out of it

I have a new set of LS7's, but I've read so many threads about people complaining about them. I just wondered if there was a better alternative that wasn't stupid expensive.

This is what i've been doing and what im worried about.

ive used them in a few ls motors and never had an issue with one........ur next step up is a comp or a morel but ur getting into the 400$ range on them

i ran a set of crane ones in my old HR motor they ran great but i paid 500+ for them...........also check out howards they make some good parts

The skirt around the roller was MIA when I took it apart. The lifter lost everything from the pin down.

I haven't read any. Is it the same as the Comp R's where people put them in, they fail and they automatically believe it's the lifter's fault?

Im sure the LS7's are fine. I was just wondering if there was a decent lifter for a little more $$, than I would maybe buy them.

Now the thing is, I have a local dyno day coming up the 17th then Im planning on going to the drag strip the 22nd. I don't know if I want to deal with trying to get the pushrods measured and ordered and everything put back together before that if I put the LS7's in. The reason (a stupid one) I didnt put the LS7's in is because I got impatient and didn't want to mess with checking the length when I did the cam. I really wish I would have just done it right.

Another problem is the PR checker I had would not work because of the guideplates. Is there a checker that will work with guideplates installed?

I know there are a lot of people that just throw the LS7's in and get stock length, but so many people say to check anyways.
