Default Quick ? about Opti..

Hi guys, Im in the process of replacing my water pump along with my Radiator, I recently purchased a flawless 1995 Z28 and I belive it has the stock opti as the seals are all but roasted (the ones that go in the cam. I have left over parts from my previous car and was wondering if the opti will still be good after it's been stored for 7-8yrs it' still looks new and it started up when it was on the other car and worked excellent..I just don't want to install it and then for it not to work and go through the hassel of removing everything..would it be ok for it to be installed if it hasn't been used for a long time? or am I better off using the one that was on the car and just replace the 2 little seals??

I would not install any used opti without first looking at the cap and rotor. There has probably been some corrosion growing on the terminals. You can hook up the opti to an engine's opti harness and give it a spin with the key on. You should get spark from the coil and hear the injectors pulsing if the optical section is ok.

I have checked the opti and the cap and rotor seem to look good this opti only has around 10k miles on it..the one in the car has 104K but it was working..so I just might plug that one back in pending how the rotor looks..

Something like that..I have the opti that came with the car..and another I had purchased a few years back for another camaro I had a delco one. both worked, and was just wondering if it was ok to use the stored opti instead of the one on the car..I replaced the water pump and seals on the TC cover. I'll open both up and see how good they are clean them up and locktite the rotor...you guys use the green locktite...right??

the majority of the stock ones i've seen go are all in the 120-140k mile range. mine went ~135k miles

make sure to check the other one like mentioned above if you decide to go the route.

Mine went at about 125k so if you have one from your old car that has only 10k miles on it and the optical is working, I would put that one in and maybe get a new cap and rotor, but thats just me.

IMO, just reuse the optispark on the car and just replace the bad seal. Why take a chance with the old opti? If it ain't broke, don't fix it! The timing cover seal is the only thing thats bad, right? So that should be the only thing you replace...IMO.
