Default My first custom built single turbo lt1

Hey fellas, well this was my first shot at a turbo setup on a 4th gen. it has been a long but fun build and im very excited to get her up to the tuning stage. as of right now its on an all motor tune from the last motor, so timing is @ 47 degrees adv by 3000 rpm so i have not pushed it yet (no boost)

drove it around yesterday to see how the drivability is as of right now and she is a blast to drive just like any other z28!!!

let me know what ya guys think!

Looks good what did you use for manifolds?

I would immediately drop the timing! Depending on factors you can run probably ~30 degrees but I would definately recommend you dropping it now before you forget and get on it.

I have a MP76 on the butt of an LT1, what size are you using?

Nice to see an LT with a single front rare to say the least congrats

the hood is a 2.5 inch wide cowl and as big as it looks it really doesnt stick up as you might think, i freaked when i got it done, i thought i was gunna need some crazy prostock scoop to cover it. the manifolds are kinda interesting, the one side is from xs power its a log style header that uses a 2.5 tubing to go from #8 primarry and sweeps across to #2 and then does a gradual 90* up to the flange, then the other side i copied and hand built the "SLP" mid length driver side header. then built a simple cross over to go under the car to the passenger side.

yes the timing will be fixed im taking it to have it dyno tuned in the next week or so got to make some schedule changes so i can get it up there.
the turbo is a t72, specs are:

.80 A/R compressor housing
72.88mm inducer
102.1mm exducer

.84 A/R exhaust housing
76mm inducer
68.99mm exducer

dont remember the trim on either side.

ill post some pics when i get to my shop i have them all on my laptop.

My name is Nick by the way i just started Power Engine Performance in Aurora, Colorado, so you will be seeing more of me around these parts

this is a 97 z28 with 9060 original miles 30th ann. so that explains the placement of the turbo, dont have the heart to cut the car up.

the turbo in the pics is an ebay "t70" i used for mock up. i did run it but a 50mm turbo and a 48mm hotside well she didnt last long, saw 9 pounds by 3000 rpm then she locked up ha ha ha

IM from Greeley, Colorado and am in the process of doing a front mount set up also but mine will be in front of the engine and standing the radiator up. Hopefully mine will be ready to play by june....ish..

Who did all your piping? i'm still looking for a pre built hot side with a T4 flange or some one to build me one local.

DAMN!

That is a BIG setup! I would say you will need at least 83 # and even then probably meth. I have a much smaller build, and with meth skipped the 83's and went bigger since a friend with similiar build was running high duty cycles with 83's.

Yours should be a real beast and challenge the 76 to keep up. With the hood it will be plain evil since it will be quite stealth...

I have a MP 76 going on the back of a Roadmaster just converting to 4L80E and hoping to get it out soon if I ever get time to work on it.

confuzzled, i did the entire build, ALL piping cold side and hot side, i can do the piping for you if youd like just bring the car on down!

thanks for all the replies guys its nice to be appreciated on ls1tech!! im new to this forum thing so this is awesome!!!!
and i think the turbo will do perfect, im not really going for all out power right now, just want it to waste the local peeps and such. once the tune is final im sure this thing will wake up from its satanic sleep its gone threw!!! ha ha ha

and 83's wow thats some fuel right there, yea i dont think this thing will need that much, im only shooting for 10 pounds at most till things settle in. 10 pounds should make well over 550 wheel @ my correction.

yea i like it way up there!!! and the heads have plenty, lt4 castings have lots of metal to work with i found out. lol and the trans is a t56 with a viper input, g force internal upgrade, billet steel shift forks, stock gm output but went threw a cryogenic treatment.
it held up when the car was all motor with a 300 shot so it should be fine.

and yes im so stoked for the dyno!!!!!!
