Do a 3.8 swap first. The 3.4 is nothing I would build.

The l67 bottom end can handle over 20psi. It's built for boost from gm.

No I'm not joking. The swap will be cheaper than building your inferior motor for boost.

3.8 motor swap = your engine build. Then you throw the turbo on that.

The 3.8 is a very good motor.

I'd set it on fire and collect the insurance.

3.8 turbo kits
3800performance.com
Zzperformance.com

For potential swap info and general (extensive) 3.8 stuff
Clubgp.com
Gpona.com

The turbo 3.8 firebird build has been a dream of mine to do for a long time. I've settled for a turbo 5.7L.

Cars to pull motors from:
1997+
Regal Gs
Grand prix GTP
Supercharged impala
Supercharged Monte Carlo
Park avenue ultra

A higher compression version also boost friendly:
1997+
Any regal
Grand prix se 3.8
Grand prix gt
Impala
Montecarlo
Park avenue
Dual exhaust years of firebirds 96+?

Sorry got mentally sidetracked. Lost my car list train of thought but you get the idea.

Wonder how many people had a 2.8 for their first motor? I did! 86 Camaro, 5 speed, t-tops. I had a ton of fun with that car.

I read years ago someone turbo'd one and made 400rwhp? I can only imagine what kind of disaster that would take seeing as they made what like 130 crank horsepower?

Forget going 3.4. Start right with a 3.8L out of a Grand National or Turbo T/A. Stock bottom end, with good heads and cam and a nice turbo will put you into the 10's all day long. Plus they're already made for front engine rear drive platforms, and you can use any tranny you choose behind it. If I had more toy money I'd definitely do it. Hardest part will be finding a good start for the engine as aftermarket blocks are big $$ and stock ones are hard to come by. G/L though!

I did too, lol.

86 Firebird SE, 5 spd, t-tops, posi rear, electric everything, Maroon with the gold bottom trim - it was sexy as hell for a third gen!!! Never seen an other just like it...it was strangely optioned, basically a fully loaded car w/ all the goodies including the nicer SE rims...but then they chose the shitty lil v6 instead of the slightly less shitty v8 .

Slow as dirt though ...it felt fast until I drove pretty much anything else .

No, do not use a 60 degree. Use the series 2 3800 out of the 90s. They are cheaper and easier to come by and are easily swapped into a firebird/camaro... Since they came in them.

Of course this whole time I've assumed you have a 4th gen f-body. Since you've not given any info.

Now you can boost the 3.4l heres a video of one making considerable numbers.
the torque is great, id drive it, and it sounds good.

But if you get a GTP motor and swap it in, you will beable to put alot more boost on the motor with stock internals and you can pick up the motors for cheap.

Theres also some people doing the m90 swap by modding the blower, this is probably faster and easyer to get boost and i could see it being fun.

Actually the series 2 3800 are better motors, quite a few of the gn and turbo buick guys are swapping over to the newer motors as theyre strong, more efficient and easier/cheaper to come by.

There' a lot to be said of an engine that pushed the GNX to high 12's back in the late 80's from the factory. At that time the Corvette was a lame performer by comparison.

I guess I'm just showing my age.....

We know what motor you're talking about.

The l67 is a newer better version with ls1 tuning. They are bulletproof and make ungodly power for a stock shortblock.

I love posting this.
Stock shortblock!!!!

Check out this link the swap/build was done by Dave the save guy who did the red m90 firebird linked to earlier. Just shows the potential the series 2 3800 actually has. May have to register, unsure

my buddy's been through three 3.8l's in his car. his last one he got shipped from the east coast with like 60k miles for $400. shipped.

like everyone else has said, a 3.4l is a waste of time.

i've always wanted to do a 3.8l turbo build. turbo'ed my lt1 tho, lots of fun
