Default torn between cams! help me decide!

alright im posting on this because, well... just because. i already have a comp custom grind .525 lift intake .534 lift exhaust, 111 lsa... but thinking it may not be enough cam... about to pickup a different cam with 247/254 @.050 572 intake 576 Exhaust 112lsa, which i know is probably too much cam. at this very moment im sticking with stock heads, but in fall i will be putting on some le2 heads. question is, how driveable will the huge bastard be and will i lose potential power and how much down low until i get the heads on? any thoughts on the cam i have already?

The new cam too big for a stock head and you would just be on the loosing side of things. Always run a smaller cam if you can. other things need to be done before you should run a large cam. Things like rods/ pistons /head work.
What is the duration of the .525/.534 cam? at .006 and .050

man, that other idiot got ripped apart untill his post was locked and deleted (funny as hell) about that 292xfi cam and its 242/248 duration, he also wanted to run stock heads. Now you come in with a 247/254 duration cam...im gonna go grab some popcorn!

Even with LE2 heads im gonna say that that cam is to large for you.

If you plan to do LE2 heads in the fall, why not do it all at the same time? and why not get a custom cam to go with em?

btw a cc306 is known to be the biggest cam for stock heads(yay i can read stickies), its duration is 230/244. This isnt the only thing that makes it to large but for a stock head car, its safe to say you do not want to go over these duration numbers....

247/254...yea...you tell me how you think its gonna work?

yeah. if you read i said i realize its too big for the current setup. im just contemplating this for a future setup. i may not even install it until i have everything ready to go in fall... good for you that you can read stickies, think we all have read them... no sense in getting stiff about it...

Personally when I have Lloyd do my heads I'm just going to have him spec me a cam for my setup. He's way smarter than me with that stuff.

I wasnt getting stiff about it. You asked for an opinion and i gave you one.

If YOU feel like you want to put that cam in the car and run it, then do it.

my post wasnt that harsh, im not gonna sit here and argue on a forum where i come to for help.

Noone is happy with my cam selection as well, but i wanted to do something different. btw i call the other guy an idiot, because he was

Doubt you'd have brakes. In you situation its not worth installing at all IMO.

not another one of these

ok im gonna be nice.........

hey OP.........that new cam you spec'd is WAYYYYYYY TO BIGGG!!!! for stock heads or LE2 heads.........espically on a stock bottom end stock ecm car that will puke itself over 7000...............

as for run the smallest cam possible thats another internet fad that makes no sense once so ever.......

for a stock long block car like urs go to AI's website and buy the 230/238 cam on a 110LSA.......it will be right in ur range and will leave plently of power on the table when you pop on the LE2's......also it will keep it in a range where the bottom end will stay together......

good luck
Mike

P.S. To give you an idea myself and a friend of mine just built a 403ci LSx motor with 225AFR heads on it and I spec'd a cam very similar to that for it.......it drives radical and pulls to 6700.......now ur 50 cubes less with heads that will never flow like the 225AFR LS head..........trust me the cam is too big

If you were referring to my post...
What I was saying is that you should run the smallest cam that can get you to what your goals are. example of this.. If you were torn between a few cams but they all would do the job of what you are looking for. This is the time that you should think about running the smaller of the cams because they tend to give more vacuum than bigger cams, and generally have better manners. this is just to keep you from running too big of a cam if your eyes are bigger than your heads! lol not just the heads, but they don't fit with the joke. haha

Many people as you may know like to run a high rev cam in a stock block when they should just run a cam in their rpm range and make better avg hp/torque. Just trying to keep peoples heads out of the clouds.

i agree.........for street use ur correct........i wasnt' singleing you out.......just expressing myself on what i've been reading on tech and hearing from some local guys.....

and FWIW i ran an AI 23x/24x cam in my 355 with untouched trick flow heads and trapped 122 at 3500lbs......so big cam does work if done right......and the car actually ran really good and drove well.....just needed a vacuum reserve can for the brakes...i got a little hairy around town using them alot lol
