Default 475rwhp A4 NA

i realize dyno is for tuning, but for my goals it seems thats the area i need to be in.

the question is, if you were staying LT1 and 4L60E...
how would you spend your hard earned pennies to make a good & dependable 475 rear wheel on motor, through a built 4L60E?

i see that i could easily spend almost $10k for an ERE/Ai motor, but i really don't want to spend that kind of money..

talked to ebay Herb, he said his fully forged 383(cc306) made 428rw in his car(M6) and the biggest cam he'd put in for me would be gm847.
for $5300+shipping, i'd only be looking at about 400rw

what do you guys think? Herb shortblock 383 with Ai SR? golen 396 for $8k? can this be done with LT1 heads or absolutely must have TFS heads? i figure i'll spray 100+ later on so forged isn't a bad idea.. but money is an object btw, don't want to just spend blindly. tia

well 475rwhp with an auto could really be 450rwhp or 600rwhp lol........dynos and stalled autos dont mix so i wouldn't go too crazy over the number........i made 470 with mine and in a 3500lb car i trapped 133mph NA with AI TFS Heads and an AI SR Cam.....the rest of the motor was built and assembled by me.......so as you can see by my numbers the math is off for me to trap that with that weight the car is prob in the low 500's wheel......dont get hooked on dyno numbers........set a speed/et goal for yourself and shoot for that.......

one way or another be prepared to shell out a few bucks for a high 400rwhp NA car.....this crap gets pricey.....good luck!!!!

PS.....with that kind of power goal id give AI a call

This is so true. Weight and DA will have profound effect on MPH as well.

10k will cut it close, and if you are starting from scratch then you will have to be thrifty.

I would go 383 (or 396 if you can find one cheap) with ported AFRs, converted supervic, and a healthy solid roller cam. Make sure you have quality springs, stiff pushrods, and good HIPPO lifters if you want it to last on the street.

Keep in mind you will also need a way to ditch the stock PCM and spin over 7k(7200 if you are OBDII).

The supporting mods of such a build will nickel and dime the hell out of you - Sure, it can be done for cheaper, but it will be expensive to do it right.

realistically (looking past actual dyno numbers) i'd be satisfied with consistent ~125mph at 3700 raceweight.

no assembly experience and not much for reputable shops around here so.. suggestions on budget friendly bottom ends?

not so big on going vic or ditching the stock pcm at this point as ramair's results show i probably don't need to.

It would be cheaper to buy his car then try to emulate the results.

Im with you Jeff, seems odd and they dont do LT1s but Im sure Larry can still hook up parts, and he has been a big part of my build and getting the car where its at. I think AMS will make a big impact on the LS crowd with him on board.
