Default So this is what my clutch and inside of tranny looked like

Sorry about all my threads the last couple days. Just figured you guys would like to see why my car wouldn't go into certain gears anymore. Miraculously though it still drove around and would go into all gears if shifted just right. How do you all think I should clean the transmission? I don't think I should pressure wash it and scrubbing would take forever!

you're not using the inspection cover are you?

mine looked the same, because of an oil leak, and no inspection cover. I got a new steel cover from ebay, very nice piece..

I cleaned my bellhousing and trans with "Brake Kleen"...i think i used about 3 or 4 cans on it.. i did clean the trans body with those as well, but its by far the best thing i used.. I also tried "Gunk" grease remover.. that sucked..

pressure washing the tranny is fine. use a tail shaft plug.

simple green, brush and water will also work.

find source of oil leak....intake, rear main seal or tranny and repair

Actually the inspection cover was on. I'm thinking that is build up from when my intake was leaking. I fixed that last year though. I will be replacing the rear main though just as a precaution.

What do you guys think about the pilot bushing? Should I replace that too since I have it apart.

I'm probably about to go to the car wash and spray the tranny after I close up the shifter hole and driveshaft hole.

Yeah take it to a self serve car wash. I did this the past winter when it was below zero. Lol.

I just did the clutch install and mine was also pretty dirty. Did the rear main seal while I was in there. I also did the wet-paper method for the pilot bearing (and it worked). Just like you I had broken springs that prevented shifting once the car was running.

Input shaft seal? Is that the one on the transmission around the shaft?
