Default ticking coming from # 8

I can only hear a valve train like tick inside the cabin or with a stethoscope around cyl # 8. the noise does not go away or change when i pull a plug wire or injector hopefully this eliminates lower end. it will go away on a 20 min plus drive but if i stop to put gas in just a few min the noise can return. I installed new LS7 lifters no change. I have installed a mechanical oil pressure ga looks ok 20-60 psi .I disconnected the oil line to the gage and put it in a bottle to check for air. if i let it sit over night i do get air. I was suspecting the oil pump the pickup tube it had more of a slip fit than tight interference fit it is strapped not welded however my oil is not foamy. I have read on this forum it is common for the LS1 oil pump to suck air after a cam swap due to o ring damage resulting in a lifter tick. # 8 ex lifter is closest to the oil pump and most likely the 1st to catch air. does any one have a more conclusive test or suggestion? I would rather not pull the oil pan without a more solid diagnosis.

A loose spark plug can tick. Check that first before anything else.
