Default Help!!! Oil pressure problems!

95 ta with a 355 lt1 about 3400 miles on the motor and this morning the oil pressure is a zero no matter what I do (pick up the revs, add oil, restart the car) it makes no noise when running an runs absolutely fine. What could it be?

Well you did check the oil level right? Not just add oil.
Oil pressure sender/regulator whatever it's called gave out?

I checked the level and it looked a little bit low but not enough to make a difference where my gauge literally reads below 0. I just added a bit of oil. Should I take off the valve cover to see if the rockers are getting oil? Cause then it would just be a bad sending unit problem right?

Default oil press

no. behind the intake on the drivers side is the oil pressure sending unit. It is either unplugged or in-op. that is where to start.

yup that's what may be causing your zero pressure read.

If the o/p sensor was unplugged, the gauge would be pegged. If the wire to the gauge was grounded out, it would read zero.

Verify pressure with a mechanical gauge. If no pressure, it might be the o/p drive (under the intake). What pump did you put in 3400 miles ago?

^ spot on. I am thinking the oil pump drive has let go. Also if the oil pump pickup had fallen off, assuming the oil is full or close to full, the pump would still draw oil in through the hole and build pressure.

The oil pressure would sometimes dip really low if I was stopped at a light and once I gave it a quick rev it came up and stayed up then today it just reads 0

if it infact doesn't have any oil pressure dont run the thing you will wind up with big issues..........hopefully you havent already.....3 seconds of no oil pressure is enough to wreck stuff...........get a mechanical gauge put it on and just crank the car with the coil unplugged.....see if it builds pressure........if not you got a mechanical issue.......

A friend of mine ran his engine when the oil pump drive broke for over 30 seconds at idle and it isn't making any noise. I'm sure the bearings were scored a little tho.

On my old engine i lost oil pressure countless times due to the pickup being off, and i drove the car over 20,000 miles without a pickup on it. Just couldnt dump the clutch or really slam the brakes hard.

Sounds like your oil pump drive.

I remember posting on the shitty oil pressure sending units, the needle would seem to stick in various places. Turned out the need was really making contact with the aftermarket guage overlay. Once I addressed that, no more sticking.

I will state that I think the Advance actually works fine for me.
