Default Extending IAT sensor?

I have a SLP intake that locates the filters down into the pocket behind the bumper with a hole to open air and a plate separating them from the engine compartment. since installing the long tubes, underhood temps are alot higher and the IAT is getting really heat soaked. would i benefit from relocating the sensor to the area down near the filters? do i just cut and solder? or is there a sensitivy issue when doing this?

I'd prefer it as close to the Throttle Body as possible..

it makes sense that it would give a more accurate reading of air temp close to the throttle body.... but only until it gets heat soaked. or maybe it just doesnt matter as much as i think it would?

the sensor itself won't really get heatsoaked. the intake, yes, but not the sensor.

so i can assume the 94 degrees on a cold morning once the intake is hot is an accurate reading (at least not way off)?

Doesn't matter as much as you'd think it would.

I've heard of certain cars like the LS1 GTO's having heatsoak problems with their IAT sensors, but never any LT1 f-bodies.

I've got almost the same intake as you (Moroso CAI), and my car seems to run fine for what it is.

GTO's use the 85mm MAF, IAT is built in.

I had this same issue with my first modded truck (TPI in a 1997 4X4) the only way to fix it is to wrap (insulate) the CAI plumbing, to eliminate the heat soaking of the plumbing. that is the real issue, not the sensor

No.

Possibly the LS2 goats do, but I'm not familiar with them.

I helped a friend with an '04 install a cold air intake and there was an IAT sensor just like on our cars. In fact, we relocated it closer to the filter to help it from getting heat soaked.

Merv I'd rarely argue with you because I know you know your stuff, but this I am 100% certain of.
