Hey everybody, I recently blew up my cam only LT1 with Lunati voodoo 60121 cam and am planning on getting a shortblock with forged 383 internals and it comes with a Lunati voodoo 60122. My question is how driveable would a 383 be with the bigger 60122 cam vs the baby 60121? It was great with the 60121 (car is 6sp with 4.10 gears). I'm planning on getting the 190cc Ai ported heads package and already have a ported intake with 52mm TB. Do you think this cam is tame enough for daily driving duties with 383 cubes and 4.10's (98% street car)? I know the smaller 60121 would be a torque monster and be like stock driveability but cost a little up top. Let me know your thoughts on this because I will have both cams to pick from. What sort of HP should I expect with these two cams?

Will work with stock converter in 383 and up size engines or 2200 RPM stall speed converter in 305-350 cubic inch engines. Likes 3.23-3.73 rear gears. Just went through this with my 95. Talked to Lunati about my set up and they suggested the 60122. My set up is 4.30 gears, 3500 stall, stock short block, ported stock heads.

BTW: Be sure you specify the year when you order the cam. Mine came with a short pin and I had to replace it to drive the Optispark.

Al 95 Z28 still apart but getting there. Primed the oil pump and set the valves today. Just about to check push rod length.

Being that you are going more cubes I would go with the bigger cam. If you are going with AI heads why not go with a cam matched to their heads?

I already have the matched valvetrain for the lunati cams with their expensive *** beehive pacaloy springs...plus I already have 2 cams now; no need to spend even more money on a third cam for minimal (if any) gains over an Ai grind cam. I'm sure the Ai heads will make just as good power with a lunati voodoo vs their cams....the specs are very close with the 2 lunati grinds vs. similar Ai grinds:

Lun 221/229 - .515/.530 -112 LSA
Lun 231/239 - .535/.550 -110 LSA

Ai 218 / 226 - .540/.540* - 112 LSA
Ai 230 / 238 - .575/.575* - 110 LSA *based on 1.6 rocker

I highly doubt there is a significant advantage to running a "matching" Ai cam as long as you don't pick some oddball cam choice.

a stock 350 lt1 (with bolt ons) can run and be a DD on a 230/244 cc306. A 383 with ported heads would have zero issues with the lunati 231/238. you could even go with that larger A/I cam the 234/242 and be fine.

There was a guy on here with a 97 WS6 M6 and he built a 383 with untouched TFS 195s (IIRC) and that 211/229 and put down 407rwhp. So that baby cam will still make some good jam in a 383 just wont have that choppy idle the 231/239 will have.

This isn't really related to my cam comparison I started the thread about, but I'll ask anyway instead of making a new thread.

What does everybody recommend for my Ai stock ported heads for a street 383; the 190cc or the 200cc version?

I successfully street drive a bigger cam then the 60122 on a 350. It's not that bad if its tune appropriately. I have a 232/241 on a stock shortblock lt1. It helps my car is a six speed but with the right stall I would glady run mine through an automatic.

So nobody has any recommendations on which Ai head package? I emailed Ai to get a quote on both while re-using my lunati beehive springs and they quoted me:

I feel that the 200cc heads are the way to go. I wish my high school budget allowed me to get them, but Im stuck with the local shop here (which still isnt too bad)
