You didn't get a quote on the work before you dropped it off? Terrible idea. I just picked up a fully machined all forged 383 shortblock for less than what they are asking for JUST machining...I be pretty ******* pissed if I was you. Sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one on you.

Now, you need to specify, is that including pistons, rings, bearings, rod reconditioning w/new bolts, machining and assembly? (plus you didn't specify if they did a line hone, deck the block, etc, so I will assume all the above)

If it is all the above that is not overpriced...

No idea what they are talking about "race series piston", but they may be referring to the fact they used forged pistons...

im beyond pissed! and he knows it, im not as dumb as i guess he thought i was, so its going to a different machine shop that i have dealt with before... just figured i would try this guy bc he built my buddys 5.0 mod motor and it runs great. but he isnt building mine at least not for that price, hell not even for half of it! the parts i priced through summit was 647.xx which is less than what he told me just for speed pro "special race pistons"

Wow, would like to know the hookup you got to get a "quality" forged 383 for less than $2100...

Hell, an Eagle or Scat forged rotating assembly runs $1200+ including forged pistons... Then you add in decking the block, bore/hone the cylinders, new cam bearings, cleanup the block, maybe a line bore/hone if needed... Then add in ARP main studs and all the other extras...

Honestly, I don't know if I would trust much to a $2100 "forged" 383 shortblock... Doesn't cost a ton more for a quality build, but it most certainly will cost more...

yes resize rods for bolts install cam bearings line hone and balance and bore, he said the most expensive part was the pistons, not the machine work...

Apples to oranges dude. You're comparing a shortblock you picked up off the internet to a guy having the assembly and machining done.

parts alone were $1k of it though

Not uncommon to pay around 5K or more for a complete shortblock after all is said and done.

Holy ****!....I was under the impression you could get the machine work done for around $1000 +/-; oh well this just re-affirms I made the right decision for MY BUDGET and got a complete forged stroker shortblock machined and assembled. I'm well aware that quality forged internals are minimum about $1400 themselves; not to mention cam, lifters, oil pump, oil pan, ect, ect, and machining. Yall just made my day because I just saved a shitload of money on my LT1 build Sorry OP, good luck with the other machine shop.

You saved a load of money because you get CHEAP internals and unknown machine work.

OP my machine work was $1700 just for a 355 w splayed mains. That's quality work though line hone bore deck etc etc.

That was only them supplying bearings and main studs.
