i hope that i never have all these leaks from my slip fit like everyone on here talks about. i just put a **** load of copper rtv on it and let it set up for almost 24 hours. anyway if you really want to put a band clamp on it, then giving it some way to tighten down is the only way to do it i think. you could also just get the slip fit welded together.

Welding was my first option but Didnt know if I would be able to get the header in/out. Does the steering arm linkage come all the way out ?

Wow, mine have never leaked. I also put the RTV on just to be sure. You'll have to pull the steering column out if you have it welded. It's not that big of a deal, extra 15 minutes to unbolt and just slide it out.

I've never seen a drivers side Hooker LT make it into position w/out taking the steering knuckle off. The slip fit is nothing more than a bad decision on Hooker's part.

On my jethots I just gooped high temp copper RTV and let it cure for a day or two before starting the car. Lasted like that for about 7 months. Pretty easy/cheap temp fix if you ask me. I may just have it welded though if/when I decide to re-coat the headers.

Hell I've tried JB Weld on my slip fit and that **** blew out w/in a few weeks. Band clamp and tolerance is all I can do from this point...

Let me add that in those 7 months, it only had one track outing and about 50 street miles, if that

Mine have been on since 2003 and never leaked...?

Did they change the design or something? I never even considered RTV-ing the slip joint.

I just got hooker headers. What part do I weld for a permanent fix? Or is there such a thing. You have to deal with this on 6 7 hundred dollar headers? WTF. also a band clamp can get in there ? Anyone have pictures I'm lost.

i've been daily driving mine for about 7 months or so with the copper rtv on them, not to mention beating the hell out of it at every chance i get, with no problems. getting them to seal seems to be hit or miss.

only thing about welding them you will want to put them on and bolt them up and put a tack on them to hold it where you need it or you will be screwed lol. should be a permanent fix for the slip tube that goes around the steering shaft. as far as the band clamp i got some on order and soon as they get here imma give it a shot so ill let you know

A long time ago when I installed some pacestter headers I had a problem with the erg sealing on the header. I bought this muffler repIr stuff you harden with a heat gun and It worked awesome. I can't remember the name but it may still be at my dads with all my old car stuff. I think it would seal the joint on the hookers bur it would look like ****.

NO NO dont cut any thing!! i ran those headers for years on both my motors........i took it apart multiple times.......all you need to do is make sure that both the male and female surfaces are clean and use a good layer of the copper hi temp rtv......let it dry over night and you're good to go.........
