Default Just Another Turbo LT1 Build Thread....

for those that don't know the history... stock motor lasted for 2 years on anywhere from 7-9psi daily. i dyno'ed it with multiple cylinders under 100psi compression (150k miles on the motor) and it put down 397whp/405ft/lbs @7psi

still not exactly sure what happened but the turbo and motor both went out at the same time, one took the other with it. pretty sure it was the turbo that went first. i was running a garrett tp38 before (off the 7.3L powerstroke)

so here's my "budget" build:

motor:
355 ci
JE forged -24cc dished pistons
custom le cam (224/224 .563/.566 114 lsa)
ported heads - 205cc, 2.00/1.56 valves
ported intake manifold
PP 58mm throttle body
42lb ford racing injectors
patriot dual gold extreme springs
lt4 1.6 rr's
LS7 lifters
Comp hardened push rods
Comp billet double roller timing chain
ARP rod bolts
ARP rocker studs
ARP head bolts
Meziere electric water pump
Pacesetter lt's
Pacesetter ORY
Mallory 685 ignition box
melling select 10544 oil pump and hardened shaft
custom OTVC wires
!air, !egr, !anything emissions related

custom remote mount turbo set-up with a t70 turbo.

will get pics of the turbo set-up soon, dont have any recent ones yet.

injectors will be maxed just over 500whp i'm guessing. so that's where i'll be at for now til i upgrade injectors and do something with the fuel pump, just running a single 255 right now. this car is my daily driver though so anywhere around 500 is good for now

right now i have about 260miles on the motor. runs really well and feels a lot stronger than before and i haven't even been in boost really.

The 260z just got a 383.

On my phone right now, I'll post pics and info on my headlight setup later.

Bigbadwhitey can't remember off the top of my head, when I get home I'll check the invoice and let you know, I assembled everything myself, just the machine work was in the ball park of $1200 I believe

some info on the headlights..

projectors are out of the spectre werkes kit for the c5 vette's. this kit is ~$1,200 so not really a feasible option to buy for an f-body lol

i just slightly modded the brackets that were already on them and gutted all the stock headlight stuff and they fit perfectly.

what they're from:

I had a question, how was the lag if any with the long tubes? I have long tubes coated and double wrapped and love it. Just woundering if you had any lag or if you dyno before and after.

right now there's pretty much no lag what so ever. even when i put the bigger exhaust housing on i don't expect to see much lag at all either. headers were painted before, now they're coated, seems to have helped.

So let me ask you, do you think stock manifolds would work better then your Lt for your combo? Lots of people have suggested I remove mine for stock ported castings, but I can not amagine how a good set of coated or wrapped headers could be out performed by stock castings and pipping.

What exhaust housing you running? My T67 has a 96 AR and spools up very nice and quick. And I don't notice any lag at all.

idk. there's all sort of theory's. but supposedly since the turbo is more restrictive than the stock manifolds would be, they dont hurt power, and then you get the added benefit of them holding in more heat.

i already had headers on my car when i built the turbo set-up and my stock manifolds were long gone. idk if there's any truth to this but in my opinion once the wastegate opens you've just lost the restriction from the turbo because you're dumping out all the excess exhaust and you would then benefit from the added flow of the headers giving you more power up top. whether that makes any sense or is true what so ever, i dont know.

i would really really REALLY like to someone dyno with headers and with stock exhaust manifolds to get a good comparison between the two, and then lay this argument to rest once and for all.

oh and i'll be running a .81a/r housing, currently i'm running a .68a/r (they sent me the wrong one) should have the .81 sometime this week
