Default will welding a crack in headers hold?

I have a crack in my DS header (SLP shorty). The crack runs along the original weld around the #7 primary tube. I was thinking about getting it welded, but was not sure of the longevity. Anybody have an opinion?

Re welding will work if done correctly, They will need to drill 2 holes on each side of the crack to stop it from getting bigger. Then they can scrap it down and weld it up for you, next you will need to re paint when the weld was done to prevent rusting down the road.

depends on how much meat is their. I had some edelbrocks crack and it held for a while... then had some pacesetters crack where the emission plugs go, I turned it down as much as i could, ended up burning a hole in the tube. worth a shot... I have bad luck with headers

Technically the spot welded will be the most strong point if done correctly.

^ yea

Obviously the header being off the car will open up ALOT more options. Easier to access, easier to put something on the inside of the header if need be (copper) to build the weld on. Actually now that i think about it, i wouldnt even bother having someone weld it if its still in the car.

So my answer, take if off, take it into someone whos not scared of metal. Fabricating shop or something of the such. You are going to need someone who is willing to get creative and not ask for tons of money. If they can get other tools on the header it will be a much better fix, having it in the engine bay limits what tools can be used.

He has to be careful the heat doesn't warp the flange, or else you're screwed.
