Default Lt1 temp?

Today was a hot day in Houston Texas and I had to take the car over to my uncles it's a 15 minute drive in stop and go traffic. My 1994 camaro lt1 temperature needle was in the middle and while I was driving it would creep up to about 3/4 of the way and would come down a little bit but maintained at a little over halfway. I was a little scared that it would go into the red but it didn't. I wanted to know if this sounds normal or if not what can I do to fix it?I was thinking of wiring a manual fan switch? I'm just so used to all of my other cars always maintaining their needle temp in the middle, maybe it's because my suburban and Tahoe have the fan connected to the motor unlike the camaro which has electric fans.Any suggestions appreciated

Stock fans don't turn on until 225* for the low speed, 235 for the high speed. If you get a tune or know someone with tuning software, you can program the pcm so the fans come on sooner. If you leave the defroster on cold, it cycles the a/c, which when the a/c is on, the low speed fans are on all the time, that's how I used to keep my car from getting too warm in town.

I wouldnt trust the stock needles 100%. When my needle points exactly in the middle, the temp is actually around 201*. Ive had my needle going over the third bar right before the red mark, when the temp is around 210*. If i remember correctly operating temp for lt1 is between 210-225.

driving around with the A/C on my car very rarely goes above 180. So if you say that operating temp is 210-225 does that mean that my car never gets to operating temp? I dont know what kinda thermostat my car has but it runs very cool.....strong, but cool.

It's completely normal to run that hot. I used a programmer to lower my temperature and installed a 160 thermostat. Now I never run over 200 on the hottest days here in central Florida.
