Default V6 shifter cable

Anyone know if the shifter cable off of a v6 a4 will work for an lt1 a4?

im having a problem adjusting it. I am following your site but the cable doesn't really move in the housing as the directions imply. I can match the lever to the shifter but then it feels like there is no dettent for 1st and the shifter feels really sloppy. Any ideas?

Are you sure you are getting the lock button pushed up? There are some little teeth in the end of the cable housing that it locks to. That is where it should slide.

I pulled the locking tab all the way out just to make sure. It still doesn't want to move. Is there anything up by the shifter that it could be hung up on?

If there is any slack in the housing, I would think it would move.

found that the plastic housing surrounding the cable pulled out of the clip inside the car that holds the rod in place. I hope that makes sense. Is it fixable or do i need a new cable. I think the trans got hung up on the cable when i dropped the enging/trans out to put my lt1 in.
