I'm using Cometic and like them just fine. Probably overkill for my 11.2:1 build with no boost. They were expensive at $160.00 a pair. An MLS gasket stands up better to the different expansion rates of the iron block and aluminum head, which creates a shearing force across the gasket face. Over time with many cycles of heat/cold, the MLS gasket will bear up and maintain a leak free seal better than a strandard one. However, MLS gaskets don't do well on heads that have not been properly surfaced to a roughness average of better than 50.

All thst being said, I'd probably do standard gaskets next time for the cost factor.

I will be using the VR .026 head gaskets, but even though they are paper thin my heads have never been installed since milling and the block is a freshly decked shortblock so both my surfaces are perfectly clean and true. They are ridiculously fragile though, and I probably wouldn't trust them just being thrown on without doing at least a clean up mill on used heads.

Most run the .039 1074 Felpros , even with nitrous or boost, and have no issues. Either those or the impala .029's are probably what I would run if I wasn't sure on the condition of my heads and block, and both will give a bit more CR then the thick stock gaskets.

My last build was around 11:1 and ran the impala gaskets, and even with tons of miles on the block and used heads they sealed fine and lasted as long as I had the setup...which wasn't a terribly long time, about ~3 years, but was literally a daily driver - it was my only ride.

I've been running impala gaskets since 09 on mine as well. Just make sure you get the right part number for them if you order them thru a dealership twice I had to send them back because the cross referenced the number to a stock LT1 gasket.

I went with the impala gaskets. I didn't exactly trust the mr gasket ones considering they couldn't even figure out how to properly package them.

That's a Impala Gasket. Not again for me, torched the head. Had it the car for about 200 passes before it gave away.

Cometic head gaskets are made to order, you can go to their website or give them a call. They can make the gasket to whatever thickness you want as well so you can get the exact quench height your after. I think they only have 1 or 2 listed on their website for LT1 reverse cooling engines but just give them the crush thickness you want and they make them for you. Same cost as the ones listed on the site as well, no extra charge for having them made to your specific thickness. Took about 7-8 days from order for me to receive mine.

Yep - they are made to order. Mine are a .032" variety.
