Default How hard is it or am i crazy

Ive found a 2000 v6 firebird roller. Currently i own a 96z28 camaro but the body and interior isnt as nice as the firebird. So am i thinking wrong that i could just swap my lt1 and engine harness to that car and be up driving. Id also swap my posi rearend too. Is there anything im over looking. I know kmembers are different but id build the suspension before engine swap

since you have a donor car (z28) it wouldnt be as hard as if you didnt, but i would recommend looking into the wiring differences (body harness and such) a due to the fact that you are going from a lt based car to an ls based car

Matter of opinion, mine is.. If you have alot invested in your current setup but the car is aging hard or you have wrecked and totaled it, then the newer donor swap would be a good project and worth it.. You would basically strip and swap everything between the two sell off any parts from the donor and the old car that you don't need then cash in the rest for scrap including the body. Good winter project imo

Basically only concern is will the 96 engine harness match up with the 2000 cluster. I know tach will be off but i use an external autometer tach. But will oil and water be correct still

Aftermarket oil and water gauges are better , speedo and odometer are your concerns... I would have to say use a lt1 year matching firebird cluster..

The old cluster isn't going to fit in that Firebird, V6 speedos max out at 120, and the odometer is digital.

You'll need custom engine harness or rewire the one you have, and a V8 firebird cluster. Dont forget to swap to a V8 fuel pump.

Is the 00 Firebird auto or manual?

Both cars are manual. But it seems like this job might be a big hassle to not even mess with

If you really want to do it, there is a lot of work here. Assuming you know what to do for all the mechanicals, the electric is where it's going to get tricky.

- you'll need all the wiring from your lt1 car and you'll have to replace it on the firebird. Some may disagree with me here, but I say take all the wiring out and all harnesses and put those in the firebird. that means you'll be stripping both cars and interiors out to get all the wiring, but this will be the easiest from a plug/play perspective.

- if you do the above, that means you'll have your lt1 dash harness that you will have to repin for a 93-97 trans am (easy) and then get a gauge cluster from a 93-97 lt1 of your choice and plug it in.

This is work and a lot of it, but if you do it this way, you'll basically be taking all your lt1 stuff and putting it in a new chassis.

If you try to keep wiring from the firebird, that's where it's going to get complicated and you'll have to move a lot of wiring around, may not get it right and ultimately give up.

I would just swap the good interior into the z. Sell the rest and get the body and paint work done. Seems like that would be easier... But hell I've never done either so I could be wrong.
