Default Battery Relocation

Hey guys. What kits are you guys running to relocate your batteries to the spare tire compartment? I want to buy everything at once and try not to piece it together. Also, am I going to catch **** at the track if I do not have a kill switch in the berger panel?

What ever you do you need a sealed box for the battery with an outside vent. Careful with the kill switch. A regular single pole switch is going to allow the alternator to run the engine with the switch off. According to the rules it has to quit when the switch is off. This switch or one like it makes it easy.

Alot of people run the BMR relocation crate. But thats for sealed batteries like an optima. I fabricated my own but its up to what you want to do. as for everything else i ran #2 welding wire (IIRC) to the junction box in the engine bay and #4 wire to the alternator and starter. I also ended up running a #2 ground cable to the engine itself to aid in grounding. On the ground by the battery i have a 200 amp circuit breaker thatll trip if ever theres a short.

As for your second question. im not 100% sure but i think some places might give you a hard time if you dont have a kill switch.

No one makes a 100% kit. Build your own. I used 1/0 stereo wire off of ebay, bought 25 feet I think. Moroso blue box and a summit push off kill switch. Terminal ends from napa. Some 4 gauge for misc engine grounds and to run from starter post to the junction block. Simple stuff man.

If you do decide to "do it yourself" let us know. I use welding leads and I make my own ends as most are too wimpy. As stated, it's very easy.

Like said, not a sealed box. Also, its for ls1's (can be made to work but still, not exact). And, the wire gauge is small for my taste.

And it's not a great price. Welding supply houses have wonderful cable. You can make the ends out of copper pipe. Still the problem with the PCM with the battery disconnected and the alternator.

I used a plastic boat battery box in one car an expensive as hell aluminum box in another and mounted the battery under the floor in another. The "under the floor" idea is good if there is room. Welded up some angle iron for the holder. Made a lid out of aluminum and some 1/4 turn fasteners. It's a tad hard to get the battery in and out but it's a good place for it.

Thumbs up

I did my own, not a kit though I pieced it together. Bought an aerospace rear fender well bracket, the rest came from Home Depot. Do not discount the need for extra grounds, is my huge 'learn' from that experience. Fought issues due to lack of grounds after I relocated the battery. All is well now, no issues...100% glad I did it. Also, do not put too much substance in the whole vent to the outside...kill-switch etc unless you will be racing in NHRA ruled events where they check that kind of thing. I do not have either of those in my car and have been racing it for years.

If you run an Optima, and the BMR bracket do you just rest the battery on the tray or build a box which isnt sealed to hold the battery?

Dry cell or wet, rule is battery is either in a box or separated from the driver compartment via a firewall.

Batteries generate Hydrogen gas when charging. That why they are vented to the outside.

ok so let me make sure I have this right I need to use a battery box for an optima dry cell battery and vent it to the outside of my car, so the bmr bracket with a battery on it is not good enough correct?
