From personal experience, how hard is a heater core swap on the lt1?

Default From personal experience, how hard is a heater core swap on the lt1?

I swore i'd never do one again after my 87 firebird. I can't describe the nightmares from that.... Looking at my car and the little bit of reading I've done it seems do able. As in the Dash doesn't have to freaking come out? Or did i miss that part. Think it's do-able for me? And tips? I've done the heater core cleaning method on Shbx site & I had heat for a day.... and didn't seem like the core became that much cleaner either. So it's time is done & it's getting cold here.

I did it. IIRC it took me about 45 minutes. You have to take out the glove compartment and then I think theres a cover over the heater core that has to come out. Its been a couple of years but it was pretty easy. The hardest part was getting the hoses to come off the old heater core.

Seems Alot easier to get to & work on than the 3rd gen, but we'll see soon enough.

Yup, Mitchell calls for 2hrs in r/r on the heater core. The fastest I ever did one was 34 min. That was pulling the vehicle in and installing a new one and reconnecting everything. Then another 20 min to bleed the system and clean everything off.

Thats good news.

For some reason the heater core on my car is disconnected, ZERO warm air in the cab.

Cant figure that one out for the life of me....

It could have been leaking, a lot of folks will loop the hoses to by-pass the heater core if it leaks. I did it through the glove box door, hardest part for me was getting the angle right, once you get that it goes in fairly easy.

Wow. I'd ask him what else he did to add power and make a list of things to fix.
